Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is getting a portion of a street named after him in his hometown of Chicago.
Patrick, who grew up near the intersection of 53rd Street and Wabash Avenue, is flying back to his old neighborhood for Friday’s 2 p.m. ceremony.
A portion of Wabash Avenue will now be known as Honorary Deval Patrick Way.
Patrick’s childhood on Chicago’s South Side has become a key element of his personal biography.
In 2011, Patrick published “A Reason to Believe,” chronicling what he called his “improbable” rise from poverty to U.S. politics.
Patrick credited his success in large part to lessons he learned from his grandparents, teachers, strangers and even a Chicago bus driver who once forgave his lack of a fare.
Patrick returns to Massachusetts Friday night.
