Chicago Marathon Runners to Compete in Rio Games

Twenty-two previous Chicago Marathon runners will represent their respective countries at the Summer Olympics

Almost 700,000 runners have completed the Bank of America Chicago Marathon since it first began in 1977.

Twenty–two of those runners will be crossing a different finish line as they get to call themselves Olympians for the 2016 Rio Games.

The two Chicago Marathon American runners representing Team USA in track and field are part of the top 10 American marathon performers in 2015.

California native Meb Keflezighi was ranked No. 2 and Utah native Jared Ward was ranked No. 4.

This won’t be the first Olympics for track and field star Keflezighi. He attended the Games in Sydney, Athens and London. At the Summer Games in Athens Keflezighi won silver in the marathon event.

Ward is all too familiar with wearing the gold medal and hopes to again at his first Summer Games this year. In 2015 he won first at the U.S Marathon Championships and also placed first at the 2015 USA Track and Field 25 and 20-kilometer Championships.
