Chicago Man Accused of Aiding Bali Murder Plot Expected to Change Plea

A Chicago man accused of helping to plot the murder of Sheila Von Wiese-Mack is expected to change his plea in a federal courtroom on Tuesday.

Robert Bibbs is accused of conspiring with his cousin, Tommy Schaefer, and Heather Mack, in the murder of Mack’s mother, Sheila, who was found beaten to death and stuffed in a suitcase in Bali in 2014.

Prosecutors in the US said Bibbs texted Schaefer ways to get away with the crime and that he hoped to cash-in on the inheritance.

Last year, Bibbs pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to kill a person in a foreign country, conspiracy to commit foreign murder of a United States national, and solicitation of a crime of violence.

It's not clear why Bibbs is expected to change his plea. A voice message to his attorney has yet to be returned.

Schaefer and Mack are serving prison sentences for murder in Indonesia.
