Roundup: Chicago Does Donuts Better Than Anyone

Dinkels, Dat Donut and Doughnut Vault listed among best in U.S.

Whether you consider it a point a pride -- or an indictment on Chicago's obesity issues -- the Windy City was well-represented on a list of the top donut shops in the country.

USA Today listed three Chicago businesses in its list of the 12 best, even beating New York City, which snagged two spots on the list.

Dinkels Bakery has been around since 1922, and was lauded for its handmade donuts and classics like the chocolate cake donut.

With locations in Beverly and Chatham, Dat Donuts gets props for its simple approach, and a "handmade plain glazed [that] will send you into a state of quiet contemplation."

River North's The Doughnut Vault is the newest kid on the block, but the consistent lines prove that its among the most popular. The article suggests trying the "light and fresh" cake donuts.

The three highlighted shops are also geographically diverse, which means whatever part of the city you're in, you'll find easy justification to break that diet.
