Five Chicago Beaches to Offer Free Wi-Fi

Ever wanted to take your work to the beach? Well, now you can.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Park district announced Friday that five city beaches will now offer free Wi-Fi to visitors.

Beachgoers will have access to free high-speed internet at North Avenue, Osterman/Hollywood, Montrose, Foster and Rainbow beaches.

“I am committed to making Chicago one of the most connected cities in the world by expanding access to high speed internet in people’s homes, businesses and in public spaces,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement.

The beach internet comes from placing wireless infrastructures on existing buildings, including condo and apartment buildings nearby. The service will extend around surrounding buildings and concession areas.

“With today’s busy lifestyle, it’s important that we stay connected even when we’re spending a day at the beach,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent Michael Kelly in a statement. “The availability of Wi-Fi adds a new amenity to the great experience that our beaches already offer.”
