Chicago-Area Locals Complain About Botched Holiday Delivery Packages

“You pay to be a Prime member and you end up being an Amazon delivery person too”

As online shopping takes an all-time high this holiday season, shoppers on Amazon are seeing damages on delivered packages—sometimes even flat-out noticing their package arrived at the wrong doorstep.

Some customers in suburban Western Springs are complaining about their items being ripped-open and left near the curb.

One woman who anonymously shared her security camera to NBC 5, captured the moment her package was carelessly tossed onto her porch.

“That’s crazy, that’s not how it’s supposed to work,” she said. “It makes you angry.”

Another Chicago-area local, Vanessa Cornell, said she came home to two Amazon package in her mulch Tuesday night—the more pressing issue being that they weren’t addressed to her family.

A Western Springs woman captured the moment her package was carelessly tossed onto her porch.

“They were absolutely not for us,” Cornell said. “A neighbor ten houses down and a neighbor who must (have) been on the other block… but it was one block over behind our house.”

Cindy Powers, another suburban local, said she also had a curbside delivery package and two other boxes delivered to her by accident.

“It’s not delivered to your doorstep and it’s not delivered to your house,” she said. “You pay to be a Prime member and you end up being an Amazon delivery person too.”

Amazon told NBC 5 that “the vast majority of deliveries make it to customers without issue. If something occurs, we work with customers directly to make it right.”

Customers however, say UPS and FedEx drivers don’t seem to be the problem—it’s some of the independent contractors that were hired this season to help with the high volume.

A word of advice? Next time you pick up your packages, double check to see it got delivered to the right spot.
