A cab driver was shot to death in an apparent armed robbery Friday night in west suburban Maywood.

Police were called about 8:44 p.m. to the 1600 block of South 5th Avenue, where they found 34-year-old Seneca Richardson slumped over the steering wheel of a taxi, according to Officer Persia Allen, a Maywood police spokesman. He had been shot in the back.

Richardson was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Investigators believe Richardson, who was a driver for Blue Cab, was the victim of an armed robbery, Allen said. The investigation is ongoing.
