9 Hurt in CTA Bus, Squad Car Collision

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash

A Chicago Transit Authority bus, a squad car and several vehicles crashed early Sunday, leaving eight people hurt and one in critical condition.

Police said the bus collided with the squad car and caused a chain-reaction crash around 1:30 a.m. at 79th and South Halsted on the city's South Side.

The bus driver reportedly was initially taken in critical condition but has since stabilized. Two police officers also were transported to nearby hospitals and are expected to be OK.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Police continue investigating the cause of the crash.
