A Chicago Police Department vehicle transporting a prisoner caught fire late Sunday night on the Bishop Ford Expressway.
The blaze started around 11:15 p.m. when the vehicle’s engine caught fire, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The vehicle was engulfed in flames in the southbound lanes of I-94 near King Drive.
Two Chicago Police officers and the prisoner they were transporting were able to get out of the vehicle safely, Greer said.
All lanes were reopened by 1 a.m. Monday morning. No one was injured.
