Man Breaks into Restaurant, Cooks Meal: Cops

Police said the 19-year-old entered the restaurant, poured himself a soda and began to cook fries and chicken tenders

Talk about a hungry teen.

Hachem Gomez, 19, of Mount Prospect, was arrested over the weekend after being observed on surveillance video breaking into a fast-food restaurant and making himself a late dinner.

Gomez was seen on video breaking the drive-thru window early Saturday at Mr. Beef & Pizza, 1796 Elmhurst Road. Police said he then entered the restaurant, poured himself a soda and began to cook fries and chicken tenders in the microwave.

Police responded to Mr. Beef & Pizza's burglar alarm at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, when they found Gomez inside. Gomez let authorities into the restaurant, police said.

He never got his food, though. It was still warm in the microwave when he was arrested, police and the owner said.

Police said Gomez didn't appear under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he broke into the restaurant.

He was charged with one count of felony burglary and was held on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 21.

Reporters noted there is a 24-hour Burger King within steps of Gomez's home.
