Bucktown Residents Blame Basement Flooding on Construction

Homeowners say flooding has become more frequent ever since The 606 trail project began

Saturday's rain left basements in one Bucktown neighborhood severely flooded.

Several homeowners on Winchester Street say they've had 2 to 3 feet of water every day it's rained recently and are beginning to question whether construction on The 606 trail may have disrupted the sewer system.

"There's been a lot of construction and we feel that maybe this time the water's not going down because of that," a homeowner told NBC 5.

Residents have logged complaints with the city and are waiting for a response.

Flooding caused major traffic issues along Interstate 90/94 Saturday afternoon.

Residents reported flooding across Northwest Indiana and NWS reported Route 53 near Lewis University was impassable due to flooding.

Flash flooding was also reported in parts of Des Plaines.
