Bradie Tennell Reveals What Happened When She Had Dinner With Shani Davis

An Olympic ice skater and famed speedskating medalist sit down at a table for dinner…

What do they talk about? Apparently, anything but home.

Carpentersville’s Bradie Tennell said she shared a meal with Chicago’s Shani Davis, but the fact that they’re both from the Chicago area never came up in conversation.

“That was a riot,” she said. “He’s just so funny. He can turn anything into a joke. Reminds me of my brothers a bit, so a lot of fun.”

Tennell, who has already won a bronze medal following her stellar performance representing the U.S. in the team women’s short program, is preparing for her first shot at an individual medal.

“I’m almost thinking about it like two competitions, so it’s the team event and then a clean slate for the individual event,” she said.

Helping her along the way? Her special socks.

Tennell said she wears purple socks on short program competition days and pink socks on long program days.

She also listen to AC/DC to help her relax before a big skate.

Tennell will be joined by her family in Pyeongchang, who was flown in as a surprise from United Airlines.

It was the first time her brother had flown out of the country.

“That was incredible,” Tennell said. “I’m so incredibly grateful to the people who made that happen. I asked my brothers how the plane was and they said, ‘It was good. We got a lot of food!’” So I said, ‘That’s the highlight, huh?’”
