Boy, 3, Shot on Chicago's West Side

It is the second juvenile to be shot in the city this week

A 3-year-old boy was shot on Chicago's West Side Friday night, according to authorities.

Police said a juvenile boy was shot around 7:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Monroe Street in the city's Garfield Park neighborhood.

According to Chicago Fire Media Affairs, a 3-year-old boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Details surrounding the shooting were not immediately known.

Police, citing preliminary information, believe the toddler may have discovered a gun inside a home and the gun fired while he or a playmate was handling it. The weapon has been recovered and police are searching for the boy's father in connection with the incident.

Police said the father is currently on parole.

The boy is the second juvenile to be shot in the city this week.

On Wednesday, a 9-year-old boy was shot several times in the chest, arms and hands at about 4:05 p.m. in in the 1200 block of East 71st Street. A $13,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the capture of his killer.

Friday's shooting also took place less than a mile from the home where 11-year-old Shamiya Adams was fatally shot in the head during a sleepover with friends last month.

That same day, a 12-year-old girl was shot in the same neighborhood.
