Boy Recovering from a 3-Story Fall in NW Indiana

The mother of 10-month-old boy who fell from a third-story window in northwestern Indiana says his doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Tiesha Powell tells The Chicago Tribune that her son Kyan is a miracle baby after surviving the fall from their apartment in Gary. Kyan is being treated at Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago for injuries that Powell says include a liver laceration and a bruised lung, but no spinal damage.

Gary police tell the Post-Tribune that investigators believe Kyan fell through a loose screen Tuesday morning as his mother slept and that neglect wasn't involved.

Powell says a friend suggested the nickname "Aladdin" for her son since they believe he flew on the screen to the ground and that it probably slowed him down.
