Boy Dies After Falling From Vehicle in “Terrible Accident”

11-year-old boy and other kids were playing in the trunk of a parked vehicle, police said

An 11-year-old boy died Wednesday, four days after he fell off a vehicle and hit his head in south suburban Country Club Hills.

About 10 p.m. Saturday, Pierre McLoyd and other youths were playing in the trunk of a parked vehicle in the 4100 block of Russet Way, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The driver told the kids to get off and that he was going to move the vehicle, police said in a release. All of them except the 11-year-old got off the vehicle and the driver pulled away.

A witness told officers the boy then fell and struck his head on the pavement several yards from the parking spot, police said.

McLoyd, of the 4300 block of 190th Place, was taken to Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he died Wednesday at 11:15 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Police determined the incident was an accident and that there was no intent to harm the boy, said Director of Public Safety William Brown. The driver was not be charged or cited, he said.

“It was a terrible accident and the family is in mourning,” Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch said. “The city is praying along with them.”

Welch said the incident happened during a family party.
