Bond was denied on Sunday for a Northwest Side man charged with murder and arson for setting a fire that killed his girlfriend Wednesday inside the Northwest Side apartment they shared.
Gregorio Carmona, 35, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson in connection with the fatal blaze in the 4800 block of North Kenneth Avenue, according to police News Affairs.
Carmona allegedly used an accelerant to set the fire in the couple’s home about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Claudia Martinez, also 35, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood following the blaze, where she died at 5:58 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
A Friday autopsy found that Martinez died of thermal injuries from an apartment fire and ruled her death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
At a hearing on Sunday, bond was denied for Carmona.
