Police in Lake Forest are going over train schedules and looking to review video from Metra trains to determine just when a young man whose body was found near railroad tracks in the north suburb was fatally struck by a train.
“It could have been anytime overnight,” that the young man, believed to be about 18 years old, was struck by the train, Lake Forest Police Deputy Chief James Held said.
What police are fairly certain of, though, is that he was struck by a Metra train in the 700 block of South Sheridan Road, Held said. Police were notified about 7:30 a.m. Sunday that the body was near the tracks there.
There were “no witnesses we’re aware of,” Held said. Police are going through Metra schedules to try to determine when the train struck the young man and the investigation could also include reviewing video from Metra trains overnight to see if the incident was recorded by a train’s camera.
Police and the Lake County Coroner’s office were on the scene Sunday morning. The Union Pacific and Metra were advised by police that all train traffic between Fort Sheridan and Lake Forest needed to be stopped for the investigation, a Metra service advisory Sunday morning said.
This has affected UP/North Line train No. 810, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 10:16 a.m. and train No. 807, scheduled to depart Chicago at 10:35 a.m. and arrive at Waukegan at 11:50 a.m., Metra said.
By about 9:20 a.m. though, train No. 810 was moving through the incident site, but was operating between 10 to 15 minutes late, according to Metra.
