Body Backlog at Cook County Morgue

Due to holiday, coffin back order

The Cook County morgue is literally stacked with bodies, WBBM reports.

The cooler is currently so crowded that bodies are "doubled-up" on trays.

Dr. Nancy Jones, the Cook County medical examiner, told WBBM Newsradio 780 that this kind of backlog has happened before, but that it does not happen often.

In this case, deaths peaked at the end of the year while coffins were back-ordered and funeral directors were away due to the holidays.

Jones said, however, that many of the bodies will be buried sometime next week.
