Blackhawks Pay Tribute to Cubs' World Series Championship

The Chicago Cubs made it a point to congratulate the Chicago Blackhawks after each of their three Stanley Cup championships over the years, and on Thursday night the Hawks returned the favor after the Cubs won the World Series.

During a break in the first period of their game against the Colorado Avalanche, the Blackhawks posted a message on the scoreboard congratulating the Cubs on their championship, and they also played a few bars of “Go, Cubs, Go” for good measure:

Before the game, Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz issued a statement congratulating the Cubs on their World Series title:

“On behalf of our family and organization, congratulations to the Ricketts family and the Chicago Cubs for an incredible season and for winning the World Series. The unwavering loyalty of Chicago sports fans has been rewarded once again with yet another team being crowned world champions. Well done.”

The Blackhawks brought the Stanley Cup to Wrigley Field on multiple occasions after championship victories, including during the summer of 2013 when they brought the Cup to Wrigley before a crosstown series game between the Cubs and White Sox.

There’s no word yet on whether the Cubs will bring the Commissioner’s Trophy to the United Center, but one thing’s for sure: there are plenty of happy fans who would love to see it.
