Bitter Temps Arrive Ahead of Snowy Weekend

Wind chills are expected to remain below-zero Thursday, dropping as low as -25 degrees during the evening hours

When there's not snow, there's frigid cold-- at least that's the forecast for the next few days in the Chicago area.

Following a snowy start to February, the area will get a two-day break from the snow, but not from the cold.

Several areas saw temperatures dipping as low at -8 degrees Thursday morning as wind chill values plunged to 20 to 30-below zero. And little relief is in sight as temperature highs will stay in the single digits for the day.

Wind chills are expected to remain below-zero Thursday, dropping as low as -25 degrees during the evening hours.

A Wind Chill Advisory was in effect until 10 a.m. for DeKalb, McHenry, Kane, Kendall and Grundy counties in Illinois and LaPorte County in Indiana. Another advisory is set to take effect in those counties from 9 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday.

Temps will warm slightly Friday, reaching a high near 12 degrees, as another round of snow takes aim.

Accumulating snow is set to move into the area during the day Saturday, bringing anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow by the evening hours. Another system could move in during the overnight hours, bringing light snowfall to areas south of Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
