Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Berwyn police said they received numerous calls from citizens who said a man in the 1800 block of Clifton Avenue was bleeding from the mouth and told them he had just been robbed

A man was found unconscious in his suburban Chicago home and later died after his teen stepson told authorities three people invaded their property before the teen managed to escape and seek help.

Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Berwyn police said they received numerous calls from citizens who said a man in the 1800 block of Clifton Avenue was bleeding from the mouth and told them he had just been robbed.

The 19-year-old told police three armed people entered his home and separated him from his stepfather by throwing him into a basement area before the teen managed to jump out of a window and run to a neighbor for help.

Police went to the home and found a man unconscious and bleeding on the first floor of the bungalow. No one else was in the home at the time, authorities said.

The man, identified as 57-year-old Juan Torres, was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he later died of his injuries, police said. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Police said the crime did not appear to be random and they do not believe residents are in danger. They canvassed the area for leads and are “actively working this investigation.”

Police did not immediately release a description of potential suspects and asked anyone with information to call detectives at (708) 795-2160 or the department’s hotline at 9708) 749-6564.
