Beloved Dog Stolen Missing After Logan Square Burglary, $500 Reward Offered for Its Return

“It feels like we need a miracle to get her back,” Castaneda said

A Chicago couple is desperately searching for their beloved pup after the 4-year-old shih tzu-Yorkie mix was stolen during a burglary in the city’s Logan Square neighborhood.

Danny Castaneda and his partner Eric Villafuerte were out of town when their dog Frida was taken from a friend’s apartment during a burglary Friday.

“It feels like we need a miracle to get her back,” Castaneda said.

Police said the burglary happened in the 1900 block of North Drake Avenue between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. The suspect or suspects entered through a rear window of the apartment and took a laptop and the dog. Area North detectives were investigating.

The apartment is on an upper level of the building and a key is needed to access the door into the stairwell, residents said.

“Anytime you have a small dog like that you just wonder what people’s motives are,” Castaneda said.

The couple has posted more than 100 signs and called more than 50 hospitals, even checking through social media looking for information. They’re even offering a $500 reward for the dog’s safe return.

“Her hair grows so all of the flyers and all of the pictures we shared is with her hair being short,” Villafuerte said. “In a couple weeks she’ll be unrecognizable, she’ll be a different Frida.”

The couple is hoping someone might have seen their beloved Frida, but as for the potential burglars, they had one message.

“I don’t need to ask questions, I don’t need to know anything. I don’t need to know nothing. I just want her back,” Castenada said.

Anyone with information on Frida’s whereabouts is asked to call police or contact the couple at this email.
