Balfour Asked Ex for Fake Alibi: Prosecutors

Prosecutors believe the woman will be a hostile witness

The estranged brother-in-law of actress Jennifer Hudson sought a fake alibi from an ex-girlfriend, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say William Balfour, 30, asked Brittany Acoff-Howard to cover for him on the day police found Hudson’s mother and brother shot to death in their Englewood home in 2008, the Chicago Tribune reports. Hudson’s nephew was found shot to death days later in an abandoned SUV

Prosecutors believe Acoff-Howard, a former neighbor of the Hudsons, will be a hostile government witness, so they asked the judge to send a certificate to her in Berkeley County, South Carolina naming her a material witness. The judge did so last Friday, mentioning that the woman failed a polygraph exam last December.

Balfour is expected to go on trial for the Hudson family murders next month. Prosecutors claim Balfour was jealous his wife, Julia Hudson, moved on and started dating another man.
