Authorities Warn of Attempted Armed Robbery Near Loyola

Loyola University Campus Safety is warning students and residents of an attempted armed robbery that occurred early Saturday morning.

At about 3:45 a.m., a Loyola student was walking eastbound on Albion Avenue near Lakewood Avenue when a man approached the student from behind with an unknown object in his hand, according to a statement from the Campus Safety Department.

The man grabbed the student’s backpack and demanded a wallet. After a brief scuffle, the man ran north on Sheridan Road, according to the statement.

The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old, with a dark complexion, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 170 to 175 pounds. He has a gold tooth on the left side of his mouth and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black gym shoes.

Students should use caution when walking with headphones or talking on the phone because it minimizes the ability to hear an approaching threat and shows a thief a potential item to steal, Loyola authorities warned students.

The Campus Safety Department is working with the Chicago Police Department on the investigation. Anyone with information on the attempted robbery is asked to call Campus Safety at (773) 508-6039 or Chicago Police at (312) 744-8263.
