Authorities Search for Indiana Inmate Who Fled After Giving Birth

The baby was born Wednesday and remains at the hospital

Authorities in northern Indiana hospital are looking for an inmate who fled a hospital after giving birth.

The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department reports 29-year-old Natasha Peters fled from Memorial Hospital on Saturday. The sheriff's department says she had been granted a furlough and taken to the hospital on Aug. 24 because the birth was high risk.

The baby was born Wednesday and remains at the hospital.

Peters was being held on a charge of armed robbery. Her trial is scheduled for November. She had been scheduled to be returned to the LaPorte County Jail on Sunday.

Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine whether she left the hospital alone or whether she received help.
