Arrieta Wins 20th Game as Cubs Cruise Past Brewers

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta reached a significant milestone on Tuesday night, becoming the first Cubs pitcher in 14 years to win 20 games in a single season.

Arrieta did so in a shutout victory over the Milwaukee Brewers that saw him strike out 11 batters and allow zero runs as the Cubs’ magic number to clinch a playoff spot dropped to just three.

The shutout victory drops Arrieta's ERA to just 1.88 on the season, and it also marks his 18th straight quality start for the Cubs.

Arrieta did have to throw a significant number of pitches in the game, racking up 123 in the contest, but he was able to fight through any fatigue and reach a milestone that no Cubs pitcher has hit since Jon Lieber won 20 games for the north siders in the 2001 season.

The Brewers were able to scratch out a mere three hits in the game, and Arrieta only walked one batter as he continued to bolster his Cy Young Award credentials with the victory.

Arrieta will get an opportunity to add onto his win total on Sunday when the Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field.
