Arlington Park, Horsemen Reach Pre-Derby Deal

Tense negotiations almost canceled Kentucky Derby bets at Illinois racetracks

Bets are back on at Arlington Park.

The park announced Thursday morning with the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association they have reached a new contract ahead of the Kentucky Derby.

Tense negotiations between the two almost canceled Saturday Derby bets at Illinois racetracks and off-track betting parlors. They argued over the distribution of riverboat casino "impact fees" to horsemen.

Arlington Park's opening day is Friday, and the agreement means racing fans can bet on Churchill Downs' Saturday Derby without traveling to Wisconsin or Indiana.

Friday's opening day includes nine live races and all Churchill Downs races, featuring the Kentucky Oaks. Doors open at 11:15 a.m., and first post is 3 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at www.arlingtonpark.com.
