Arlington Heights Man Gets 5 Years for Receiving Explicit Image of 10-Year-Old Girl

A man from northwest suburban Arlington Heights was sentenced to five years in federal prison Tuesday for getting a 10-year-old girl to send him sexually explicit images of herself over the internet.

Daniel Santiago, 25, pleaded guilty in August to one count of knowingly receiving child pornography, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Santiago tried to get the girl to “engage in sexually explicit conduct” during several online conversations in 2014, and he eventually received a photo that he then shared on a separate application for more people to see, prosecutors said.

In his plea agreement, Santiago admitted to keeping a collection of 2,210 pictures and 25 videos of child pornography, prosecutors said.

U.S. District Judge Robert W. Gettleman handed down the five-year sentence Tuesday. An FBI task force carried out the investigation with the Cook County sheriff’s and state’s attorney’s offices.
