Are Tennis Balls Green or Yellow? Tennis Great Roger Federer Answers

While in Chicago this week, tennis great Roger Federer was asked to settle the debate over the true color of a tennis ball once and for all

The latest controversy polarizing the Internet has just been answered by one very official source.

While in Chicago this week, tennis great Roger Federer was asked to settle the debate over the true color of a tennis ball once and for all.

So, are tennis balls green or yellow?

“They’re yellow,” the pro athlete said without hesitation in a now-viral Twitter video

But just when you thought the mystery had been solved, it appears Federer’s answer only fueled more questions than answers.

The most recent color question consuming social media was sparked by a Twitter poll last month.

Nearly 30,000 votes and more than 600 comments later and it appeared green had taken a victory -- until Federer, that is.

Video of his response garnered more than 365,000 views and only furthered questions surrounding the true color of a tennis ball.

Some users began making up their own name for the color, with some writing grellow, yeen, lime yellow and more.

According to the International Tennis Federation, rules state tennis balls must be either white or yellow in color. The federation's website says tennis balls were historically black or white in color, depending on the background of a court, but yellow balls were introduced in 1972 to make them more visible for television viewers.
