Anthony Rizzo Makes Ridiculous Play As Cubs Battle Indians

The Chicago Cubs have been hitting the cover off the ball in recent weeks, but in Monday’s game against the Cleveland Indians, their defense took center stage as first baseman Anthony Rizzo made a remarkable play.

In the top of the third inning with the game tied at 0-0, Indians pitcher Corey Kluber attempted to lay down a bunt to move Urshela over to second base. Rizzo had other ideas:

Rizzo, unable to catch the popped-up bunt, slid along the first base line to keep the ball in fair territory, and he initiated a 3-6-4 double play to end the inning.

That type of heads-up play is one that Rizzo is becoming known for (just reference his incredible catch in the first base stands a few weeks ago), but he’s also become known for his clutch hitting. His triple in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie and gave the Cubs the lead.
