Beaten Teen Alert After Surgery

Witness: "He was covered in blood. Blood was all over the street,"

The Chicago teen who was beaten in North Side Edgewater Wednesday night was alert and able to talk to detectives after undergoing surgery Thursday.

This beating comes just a week after a video tape of the beating death of Fenger honor student Derrion Albert rocked the city and the nation.

However, no one was videotaping when three men chased down an unidentified 14-year-old teen and beat him nearly to death on the 6300 block of N. Paulina.

"He was covered in blood. Blood was all over the street,"  the woman who called police to the scene told the Chicago Tribune. "It was all over his face, arms and coming down the back of his head."

One of the men allegedly struck the boy with a "shiny object," the witness said.

The boy was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital with a fractured skull.  Police said he was hanging on to life and that the attack appeared to be gang-related.

The rampant youth violence in Chicago is so bad its even caught the attention of the White House. Wednesday President Obama indicated that he would address the issue of Chicago’s youth violence.
