A new round of explosions could blast a Missouri levee Wednesday in an effort to save parts of Southern Illinois.
The Army Corps of Engineers plan to blow another breach in the Birds Point Levee to alleviate the swollen Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
A blast on Tuesday opened the gateway for floodwaters to saturate 130,000 acres of farmland outside Birds Point, Mo.
That part of the plan gave at least one Cairo resident mixed feelings about the Corps trying to stave off record flooding near her downstate Illinois home.
"I know how I feel right now being without a home, and I have a lot of compassion for them," Latresser King, who moved into a shelter, told the Associated Press. "I don't want anybody to go through what I'm going through."
The Corps will continue to breach the levee "as long as the river is up as high as it is," spokesperson Jim Pogue said.
