Amtrak Train Hits, Kills Hammond Teen

No word why the 17-year-old was on the tracks

A teenage boy died Tuesday evening after he was hit by an Amtrak train in south suburban Lansing.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the boy Wednesday morning as 16-year-old David Kivo, of the 2600 block of Ridge Road in Lansing, according to The Chicago Tribune.

A spokeswoman for Amtrak told The Tribune the Amtrak’s Cardinal was four miles north of Dyer, Ind., en route to New York City around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday when it hit Kivo between 186th Street and Torrence Avenue in Lansing.  

The accident investigation delayed the train by almost two-and-a-half hours.

None of the passengers or crew members aboard the train was injured in the accident. 

No word yet why Kivo was on the tracks.
