Amtrak Commits $12 Million to Rehab Union Station

Amtrak's contribution is the first in a $500 million plan to rehabilitate Union Station

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Wednesday that Amtrak has committed $12 million in funding for a major rehabilitation of Union Station.

Amtrak's contribution is the first piece of a $500 million plan to overhaul the 90-year-old Union Station's aging infrastructure, according to the mayor's office.

The rehabilitation plan comes amidst other proposed changes to Union Station, including construction of the Union Station Transportation Center, which is a CTA bus terminal that will anchor the new Central Loop Bus Rapid Transit Corridor  and connect Amtrak, Metra, the CTA Blue Line and several downtown destinations.
