9-Year-Old Boy Shot in Head in Roseland

A 9-year-old boy was shot in the head in his back yard early Wednesday while taking a dog out for a walk with his father in the Roseland neighborhood.

Police say it happened around 3:20 a.m. on the 0-100 block of East 100 Place on Chicago's far south side.

Police told NBCChicago the boy was conscious in his father's arms when paramedics arrived, but his condition quickly deteriorated.

Paramedics took the child to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

Calumet area detectives are investigating.
