Police: 83-Year-Old Man in Custody for Fatally Shooting a Prominent Indiana Attorney

An 83-year-old suspect is in custody after shooting a prominent attorney to death at his home Wednesday morning in Indiana, police said.

Authorities say the incident occurred outside of the victim's home at the 1200 block of West Fourth Street in Hobart.

Tracy Edward Page, 64, was a part-time judge at Lake County Public Defender's Office and an attorney who worked for the law firm Thiros & Thiros.

Officials said Page had turned in his retirement letter Tuesday with plans of leaving by the end of the month to teach.

The suspect, police say, is a man from Cedar Lake who was a long-time friend and client of Tracy Edward Page.

According to police, the man had gone to Page's home to retrieve some documents but a motive for the shooting remains unclear.

“There was a firearm recovered at the scene,” said a Hobart police officer.

Authorities said they are “investigating it as an isolated incident and there are no additional suspects being sought.”

The Lake County Bar Association says Page’s legacy, sense of humor and dedication will never be forgotten.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, authorities say, and they also expect the 83-year-old suspect to be charged that same day.
