8-Year-Old Girl Shot at Barbecue on NW Side, Police Say

The girl was attending a family event in Humboldt Park when shots rang out from a passing vehicle

Chicago police are investigating after an 8-year-old girl was shot during a family barbecue on the city’s Northwest Side on Sunday afternoon.

The family was hosting an event at approximately 3:54 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Monticello in the Humboldt Park neighborhood when a person in a blue Dodge Charger drove by the residence and opened fire, according to police.

The little girl was struck in the leg, and was rushed to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she is currently listed in good condition, police said.

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, and police are investigating.

The girl is one of 43 people shot in the city so far this weekend, with two individuals suffering fatal injuries.
