Child Found, Stolen Car Still Missing

8-year-old left sleeping in open car on South Side

The keys were left in the ignition and the doors were unlocked when a motorist dashed into a gas station for windshield wiper fluid at about 8:30 a.m.

When he came out, the car and his 8-year-old boy  who had been sleeping inside were gone.

The boy was found safe several hours later at 80th and Stewart streets, but the car remains missing.

The initial hijack occurred at a Shell station at 8259 S. State Street. 

Police continue their search for a 2004 red Pontiac Grand Prix with Illinois plate 9607878 andthe person or persons who drove off in the vehicle.
