9 Shot, 2 Fatally, in Less Than 1 Hour in Chicago

Outside of the hour, another three people were shot, one fatally, in Chicago violence Thursday

Nine people were shot, two of them fatally, in less than one hour in Chicago on Thursday. 

Two people were killed and another injured just before 4 p.m. in a drive-by shooting in the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood. Police said someone in a van opened fire at the three victims in the 4300 block of West Wilcox Street before fleeing.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, and a 43-year-old woman was shot in the back and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. A 16-year-old boy was also shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Six minutes later, four people were shot in the 6800 block of South Throop Street. Police said someone in a passing vehicle opened fire at the group, wounding four men. 

Two 30-year-old men were shot in the foot and taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. Another 30-year-old man was shot in the hand and leg and took himself to Holy Cross hospital in fair condition. A 43-year-old man was shot in the stomach and listed in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Around 4:11 p.m. a 25-year-old was shot in the Ashburn neighborhood, according to police. The man was shot in the back in the 7900 block of South Kenneth and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Then, just after 4:45 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds after someone approached him on foot and opened fire. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Outside of the hour, two other people were shot, one of them killed, in Chicago violence Thursday. A 32-year-old man was shot to death in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side around 1:45 a.m.

A white SUV pulled up to the man while he was outside in the 2900 block of North Sacramento, police said. Someone inside the vehicle opened fire. The man shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:33 a.m., according to police.

Another man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side Thursday morning, according to police. At 10:05 a.m., a 19-year-old was into argument with a suspect in the 3200 block of West Madison. The victim was shot twice in the right leg and taken to Norwegian American Hospital by a family member.
