Seven people were shot, one of them fatally, in a mass shooting late Tuesday night just blocks from the Chicago Police Department's headquarters.
Police said the victims were standing on a sidewalk just after 10:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East 37th Place when several men walked up and opened fire from the corner of the block.
A 28-year-old man was shot in the back and pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Three others were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in stable condition, including a 21-year-okd woman who was shot in the left knee, a 28-year-old woman shot in the left leg and a 45-year-old woman shot in the right buttocks.
Two other women, ages 46 and 27, were transported to Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds to their legs, police said. They were last listed in stable condition.
A 30-year-old man later walked into Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg. He was also listed in stable condition.
Further details weren't immediately available. An investigation remained ongoing Wednesday morning.
