6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Pulled from Naperville Pond

A 6-year-old boy died Saturday after he was pulled from a pond in Naperville.

Police responded to a call of a small child face down in a pond at 95th Street and Cedar Glade in Naperville around 11:39 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses and arriving police performed CPR on the boy after he was removed from the water, but the boy was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Edward Hospital.

The boy was identified as 6-year-old Amer Khan, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday, but officials from the Naperville Fire Department said in a release the death appeared to be a drowning.

The boy has been identified but his name was not been released as of Saturday afternoon, according to Naperville fire officials.

The rescue prompted a response from area police, firefighters and the Aurora Fire Department Dive Team.

Rescuers searched the waters until 1:30 p.m. before determining no other victims were in the water, according to a release from the Naperville Fire Department.
