Four people were killed and at least 11 people were injured in gun violence across the city since Friday afternoon, police said.
A 19-year-old man died after being hit multiple times in the chest around 7 p.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Humboldt Park man was killed and another person injured after they were shot while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the West Side early Sunday.
The driver of the car heard gunshots and realized the car, with three passengers inside, had been shot at, the trooper said. He drove to Rush University Medical Center, arriving about 2:10 a.m. When they got to the Near West Side hospital, a rear seat passenger who was seated on the driver’s side was found dead and another rear seat passenger, who was on the passenger’s side, was wounded.
In another incident, a man was shot and killed in Englewood about 3:10 p.m. Saturday, police said. The man was shot multiple times in the abdomen in the 5500 block of South Loomis Boulevard and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, authorities said.
A suspect was in custody Saturday afternoon, police said. The man shot remains unidentified early Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Earlier Saturday, a man was found shot in the chest at 7 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of North Talman Avenue after responding to a call of a person found unresponsive, police said.
The 25-year-old man — identified as David Kartzmark of River Grove — was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m. while en route to Norwegian-American Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.
About 8:10 p.m., a man was shot in a gang-related attack on the Near West Side. He was sitting in a vehicle in the 1800 block of West Maypole when a shooter walked up and started shooting, police said. He suffered a graze wound to the buttocks and was treated and released from John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, two men were shot in the 5100 block of West Oakdale Avenue. A 25-year-old man was shot in the back and in critical condition and a 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the wrist, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
About 11:48 a.m. Saturday, a man was shot in the 4500 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said. A male, whose age was not immediately known, was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with gunshot wounds in the chest and arm, police said.
About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, two men were critically hurt in a gang-related shooting in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood, police said. The men were riding in a car in the 4000 block of West Montrose Avenue when another vehicle pulled up alongside and opened fire, said police. One of the men, age 21, was struck in the back, the other, a 23-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the ear. Both are in critical condition.
About 12:17 a.m., two other men were shot in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood, in the 3800 block of South California Avenue, police said. Both were taken in a gold-colored Honda to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
Earlier, about 9:20 p.m. Friday, bullets grazed an 18-year-old woman in the back in the 4600 block of North Malden Street in the Uptown neighborhood, police said. Her condition is not known.
Several hours before in the same neighborhood, a 21-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, police said. He was shot about 5:35 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Sheridan Road and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in “stable” condition.
The weekend’s first shooting happened about 3:45 p.m. Friday, leaving a motorist shot in the chin in the 1000 block of West 47th Street, police said. He was driving westbound in the Southwest Side Back of the Yards when a gunman started firing.
The man, 58, drove home and called police. He was listed in “stable” condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
