5 Injured, 3 Critically, in West Suburban Car Crash

The accident occurred outside Proviso West High School in Hillside

Five people were injured, three critically, after a car crash in west suburban Hillside Friday night.

Authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash at the corner of Harrison Street and South Wolf Road about 11 p.m., according to Hillside Fire Department Capt. Joe Pellicori.

The accident occurred outside Proviso West High School.

Two people were taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in good condition, and three people were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, Capt. Pellicori said.

Hillside Police said in a release that the accident was alcohol-related, and one of the drivers, a 23-year-old man, is currently being held with charges pending. Police also said that surveillance footage at the intersection captured the collision, and shows the driver running a red light.

The driver of the second car, a 42-year-old woman, remains in critical condition.
