5 Hospitalized for Heat-Related Illnesses at Taste of Chicago

Fire officials reported the transports Wednesday afternoon as temperatures soared over 95 degrees

At least five people have been taken to local hospitals after they suffered from heat-related illness at the Taste of Chicago Wednesday.

According to Chicago fire officials, the individuals were taken to hospitals after they became ill due to the high heat and humidity at the festival, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s at the annual event.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said that the illnesses were “nothing too serious.”

As temperatures soar across the area, heat-related issues have begun popping up in other areas. Metra South Shore Line trains are operating under speed restrictions due to the extreme heat, with trains expected to be delayed 15-to-20 minutes on the line as a result of trains having to move slower, according to the agency.

Riders are encouraged to be at their boarding stations on time in the event that delays aren’t as extensive as initially feared.
