Despite his request for a trade, the San Francisco 49ers do not plan to move kicker Robbie Gould, according to a new report Wednesday.
The report, which comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, indicates that the team is unwilling to trade the kicker, and will likely instead force him to play on the franchise tag for the 2019 season.
The news comes after a report Tuesday that Gould had called off contract negotiations with the 49ers, and that he wanted to be traded instead so that he could be closer to his family, who still lives in Chicago.
The franchise tag carries a salary of $5 million for Gould, and the 49ers have said all offseason that they plan on having him as their kicker for the 2019 campaign.

Gould had a strong season in 2018, making all but one of his field goal attempts and 27-of-29 extra point attempts on the season.
The Bears have already designated Cody Parkey for a June 1 release after his subpar finish to the 2018 season, but have signed several potential prospects for the role, including Redford Jones, Chris Blewitt, and Elliott Fry.

That likely wouldn’t stop them from trading for Gould, but the financial cost could be an issue, as the team still owes Parkey $4 million on the salary cap for the coming season.
