Four people were hospitalized in two separate traffic accidents on the same street in downtown Des Plaines Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The first accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. when a car traveling west hit a woman walking down Miner Street in front of the popular Sugar Bowl Restaurant, according to police. The woman was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition.
Just two hours later in the same spot, three people were injured in the second accident when a car hit two teenage girls riding their bicycles. The two teens and the car’s driver were transported to area hospitals.
One of the teens hit was listed in serious condition; the other was reported to have moderate injuries.
Police closed off Miner Street from Lee to Pearson streets and diverted traffic while investigating the two accidents.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday both cars were still on the scene and the investigation was ongoing.
