3 ‘Englewood Angels' Found Living in Abandoned Chicago Home

Three sisters were found by police living in an abandoned building in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

One of the girls, 7-year-old Destiny, was abused, according to police. All three sisters Monday were living near where they were found, in the 6300 block of South Green Street, with their grandmother. A GoFundMe page has been set up by police to help her afford rent and supplies she can’t afford to care for the girls. The page is called “The Englewood Angels” and has raised about $100,000 in less than two weeks.

Ald. Raymond Lopez, 15th, told NBC 5 he’s working with police and the community to help the girls. He said he is appalled by the conditions the girls were found living in last month.

“The [oldest] was mothering them as best she could,” he said.

He also said donations have come in from around the country to help the girls and that the police are planning on throwing Destiny a birthday party.

“They have really taken to this family,” he said.

A 4-year-old died this summer after years of neglect in the same ward. The alderman says he is working with the Department of Public Health and Family Services to prevent similar situations.
