3 Men Killed in Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash in Southern Kankakee

Three men were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in southern Kankakee County Monday morning.

The car, carrying four people at the time, was traveling southbound on U.S. Hwy. 45/52 around 5 a.m. when it veered off the roadway and slammed into traffic light pole near the I-57 exit ramp, according to Kankakee Police Chief Larry Regnier.

After striking the pole, the car continued to travel about 75 feet into a ditch, police said, ejecting the driver from the vehicle who was pronounced dead on the scene, along with two passengers.

The three killed were identified as 25-year-old Lucas Frye of Milford, 57-year-old Randy Gates of Kankakee, and 33-year-old Eddie Shrkozi of Milford.

The sole survivor of the crash, 33-year-old Richard Tolmer of Kankakee, managed to walk from the wreckage before being transported to a nearby hospital to be treated, police said. The extent of his injuries were not immediately known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
