Three Floyds Brewery Plans Huge Expansion

Plans include huge outdoor dining area and tons of additional warehouse space

World-renowned Munster, Ind., brewery 3 Floyds is aiming to more than double its size with a massive expansion project.

The craft brewery, known for its specialty beers such as Zombie Dust and Permanent Funeral, filed plans Feb. 8 with the Town of Munster Plan Commission to expand the existing 57,000-square-foot space by nearly 137,000 square feet, according to the documents filed with the Plan Commission.

The proposal calls for more than 114,400 square feet of additional manufacturing and warehouse space, 7,400 square feet of retail space and 7,300 square feet of brewpub and restaurant space.

A 16,706-square-foot outdoor dining and garden area is also included in the plan, along with additional parking, new sidewalks and the construction of a service road near the facility with loading dock access.

To make way for the expansions, the adjacent Architectural Accents building would need to be demolished, the plan says.

The Munster Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on the project 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Town Hall, according to a report from The Times of Northwest Indiana.

Last year, 3 Floyds was named one of the top 10 best brewers in the world by beer enthusiast website RateBeer.com. More than 22,500 brewers are listed and rated on RateBeer.com.

Included in the top 100 were other local staples such as Half Acre Beer Company, Goose Island Beer Company, Pipeworks Brewing Company and Revolution Brewing Company.

The 3 Floyds expansion is designed by HKS, a global architecture firm with various locations located in North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
