3 Firefighters Injured in South Side Blaze

A fire that broke out Saturday morning in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood left three Chicago firefighters seriously injured.

The fire began around 6:30 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Emerald Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Media.

The fire, updated to a still and box alarm, blazed through the basement of a 1 ½ story building.

Fire Media initially said one firefighter was transported to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.

Two other firefighters were later taken to Saint Bernard Hospital also in serious condition.

What caused the injuries was not immediately known as of 10 a.m. Saturday.
